As part of the urban redevelopment of the Les Halles area being undertaken by Paris City Council, the Châtelet–Les Halles RER hub is undergoing major refurbishment to allow it to serve customers better.
Initiated by Paris City Council, the Les Halles redevelopment project provides for the improvement of the Châtelet–Les Halles RER hub, which lies at the heart of the Ile-de-France public transport system, being used by more than 750,000 passengers each day.
Châtelet–Les Halles has more passengers and trains than any other underground station in the world. After 30 years of operation, major improvements to this heavily frequented station had become indispensible. An initiative conceived in partnership with the Ile-de-France Region, Paris City Council, STIF and Espace Expansion, the renovation of the site has several aims:

As a key player in the day-to-day operation of the station, RATP was appointed project owner. The technical complexity inherent in such a project is further increased by the fact that the station will remain open and accessible to transport users throughout the execution of the works.
The project aims to construct a new identity for the station, making it more welcoming and easier to navigate. To this end, RATP's actions include:

Following a call for tenders, RATP selected architects Patrick Berger and Jacques Anziutti to redesign the station and its entrances.
