Mobility workshops® : making your life easier
As well as operating transport services, RATP has a responsibility to assist passengers with mobility difficulties.
In our urbanised society, mobility is essential
It affects access not only
to employment, but also to education, culture, leisure and commerce. In short,
it determines the extent to which an individual is able to participate in the
fabric of society.
It takes time to learn how to read a map, find your way around a city, plan a
route, use ticket dispensers, understand signs, and switch from one mode of
transport to another.
When transport users have not had time to learn these things, they make a lot
of mistakes, which makes them apprehensive and causes stress, sometimes leading
them to avoid public transport altogether.
Actively involved in city life by its very nature, RATP is a socially
responsible business and has a duty to provide assistance to passengers in
difficulty.
This is what led it to launch its mobility workshops.
Priorily aimed at young people aged 16-25 who have registered for a social inclusion or
access-to-employment scheme, mobility
workshops aim to make it easier for economically vulnerable people to access
and use public transport.
Two levels of workshop are offered:
» Beginners, for people who never or seldom use
public transport,
» Booster training,
for transport users who know little about public transport and focusses on the behaviour
expected of transport users.
Run by a fully committed, well-trained RATP staff member,
each workshop is attended by around ten people and lasts approximately three
hours. A series of interactive and accessible activities allow everyone to play a
part in the sessions.
At the end of the workshop, a “mobility certificate” is awarded to each participant.
A simple
but effective way of rewarding participants for their involvement and the
progress they have made.
These workshops are run as part of an agreement between RATP and its partners
(public bodies, associations, local task forces, businesses, etc.).
