Cleanliness all day long

More than 1,800 staff members work in our networks every day to offer our customers high standards of cleanliness throughout the day.

Cleanliness is a priority for RATP. It means offering customers a clean environment all day long at every point in the network. Checks are systematically performed when stations are opened and stations are kept clean throughout the day by RATP’s 6,000-strong team, in order to maximise customer comfort and well-being. Costs amount to more than €65 million a year, making the cleaning contract, currently shared by four professional contractors, the company’s biggest service contract.

Three levels of operation

Comprising cleaning services, maintenance operations, renovation actions, selection of materials and sustainable development, RATP’s cleanliness policy is organised into several levels:

  • Daily services: cleaning of all surfaces, rubbish collection, sweeping, graffiti removal, etc.
  • Periodic property maintenance: cleaning and waxing of floors, cleaning-out of sumps, removal of chewing gum, cleaning of tracks, etc.
  • Occasional operations: cleaning of ceilings, vaulted roofs, lighting, paintwork, removal of incrustations, etc.
