Services tailored to senior citizens
RATP intends to facilitate travel for senior citizens and over-75s, in order to allow them to maintain their autonomy and independence.
The link between mobility and longevity is now well established.
Adapting the city and its services
The ageing global population presents one of the major challenges of the 21st century. People will work longer and live longer. It is essential to act now to adapt the city and its services, and particularly public transport, to meet the needs of these populations. Public transport networks must therefore take into account the sight, hearing, mobility and cognition problems that can appear with age and adversely affect a person’s autonomy.
To this end, RATP has developed a specific programme for the over-60s, called Seniorcité. This scheme offers seniors citizens the opportunity to discover the city from another perspective using public transport, all at a discounted rate.
RATP is working with scientists who are studying physical and cognitive ageing.
- A series of seminars have familiarised the company’s staff with issues surrounding ageing.
- This work has also made it possible to implement an educational programme designed to improve the autonomy of older people through a personalised programme of physical and/or cognitive exercises for volunteers aged 65-80.
Mobility workshops for seniors are currently being devised in partnership with the Collège de France, Université Paris Sud 11 and Université Paris Descartes.
