The modernization work on Metro Line 14 will resume in September 2024. As a result, traffic will be interrupted as follows:
- From September 9 to December 19, 2024 (except on Tuesday, October 15, and Monday, November 11): every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening, starting from 10 PM
- On Sundays, September 15, September 29, October 13, November 17, and November 24, 2024: all day long
Further interruptions are expected starting in January 2025.
Many alternative routes are available, including:
- A replacement bus service that will operate between Gare de Lyon and Olympiades stations;
- Noctilien buses running every night.
Why are there new interruptions on Metro Line 14?
Metro Line 14 has reached a major milestone with the extension to Saint-Denis - Pleyel and Orly Airport. One of the conditions associated with this phase was the upgrade of its automatic train control system, a world-first achievement successfully implemented for the Paris 2024 Games.
However, the complete modernization of Metro Line 14 and its control system still requires additional work and testing. These tests will help evaluate additional features of the new system under real conditions, making it even more efficient.
For technical and safety reasons, these tests must be conducted outside of regular passenger service, necessitating evening and occasional Sunday or holiday closures until sometime in 2025.
Once complete, Metro Line 14 will be equipped with even more advanced systems and innovative features, ensuring it can transport up to one million passengers per day, expected with the connections to the Grand Paris Express lines.
