Teaching mobility

We strive to ensure that our networks are accessible to all, and we are committed to creating a more humane city.

Fully conscious of the fact that mobility can be determinant in one’s access to jobs, recreational sites and the social sphere in general, we have created Mobility Workshops® to ensure that our networks are accessible to all. In addition to our mission as a transport service provider, we have an important role to play in facilitating mobility.

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, we contribute to the economic and social development of the communities in which we operate. We strive to ensure that our networks are within everyone’s reach, and we are committed to creating a more humane city. Fully conscious of the fact that mobility can be determinant in one’s access to jobs, recreational sites and the social sphere in general, we have set up initiatives to ensure that our networks are accessible to all.

More than a decade ago, we launched an educational service called “Mobility Workshops®” (a registered trademark of RATP), which aims to explain how to use all means of transport that are available to the public, including walking and bicycling.

In our urbanised society, mobility is an essential skill

A veritable social innovation, these workshops are led by RATP Group staff in uniform and are voluntarily limited to about ten participants. The 3-hour workshops are held on premises in the Ile-de-France region – public entities, associations, companies, high schools, etc. – that have signed contracts with the RATP agencies devoted to development at the local level.

Training is provided in map reading, understanding urban spaces, creating an itinerary, using automatic ticket vending machines, understanding signage, and changing from one means of transport to another. Mobility Workshops® offer fun, practical exercises that help participants acquire the skills they need in order to use our networks.

We offer two levels of workshops

  • Initiation for persons who have seldom or never used public transport,
  • Skills building for passengers who are already somewhat familiar with public transport (these workshops focus on passenger know-how).

Mobility workshops® in schools

When the time comes to choose their vocational ambitions, many youth give preference to those establishments they already know how to get to, rather than those offering the opportunities that interest them the most. We now offer “Mobility Workshops®” to students completing their last year of middle school, and to those enrolled in technical schools.

We have also adapted our workshops for persons with disabilities, and we plan to continue developing our “Mobility Workshops®” for other target audiences: seniors, companies, etc.

For many participants, “Mobility Workshops®” help reduce fears that dissuade them from using public transport. In our satisfaction surveys, nearly 80% of respondents answered affirmatively to the question, “Did the Mobility Workshop® reassure you about using public transport?”.

Mobility workshops® for persons with mental disabilities

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and accessibility policies, we want to commit ourselves to designing educational content for persons with mental disabilities. We wish to strengthen our participation in social cohesion.

Our Mobility Workshops® were given the Jury’s Award at the 2013 Ile-de-France Mobility Awards.
