RATP Group subsidiary RATP Dev, alongside its Brazilian partners CCR, OTP and Invepar, has won the contract to build and operate tramway lines in Rio de Janeiro in the run-up to the 2016 Olympic Games.

During the project, a tramway network for the city of Rio catering to the Porto Maravilha area, the Rio 2016 press village, the business district, central station, maritime terminal and Santos Dumont airport is to be developed.

The first 14-km section is scheduled to enter into service at the end of may 2016. The project features a total of 32 stations with 28 km of tracks, all entirely without catenaries. The winning consortium has selected Alstom to supply rolling stock and systems.

RATP Dev will train staff, monitor construction, conduct operational trials, launch the service and operate the tramway and support operations during the Olympic Games (5-21 August 2016).
