Code name: MP89 MP stands for “matériel pneu” (tyred vehicle) as opposed to MF, which stands for “matériel fer” (rail vehicle) and “89” refers to 1989, the year during which it was ordered. That was the official name of the last MP89 train to leave metro line 14 today. After many trips along metro line 14 since it was inaugurated in October 1998, the train will continue its journey on metro line 4.

This milestone closes the chapter of metro line 14’s rolling stock renewal. The objective was both to replace the entire 35-rolling-stock fleet for the commissioning of the first line extension to Mairie de Saint-Ouen in December 2020 and to double the overall fleet size in view of the commissioning of the extensions to Orly and Saint-Denis-Pleyel in 2024 with the addition of 37 new trains.

The metro network’s rolling stock is undergoing an upgrade as part of metro line 4, 11 and 14 extensions (to Bagneux, Rosny-Bois-Perrier, Mairie de Saint-Ouen, then Pleyel and Orly respectively). Several train acquisition and transfer operations are set to take place on metro lines 4, 6, 11 and 14. At RATP, this is what we call the “train pneu” (tyred train) programme.
