Alexandra, an engineer and automation expert, has been designing and developing the RATP network's automatic metro systems over the past 10 years. In particular, she played a key technical role in reducing the transit time between two trains from 90 to 85 seconds when it was decided to increase the frequency of traffic on line 14 at rush hour and in achieving 10% energy savings during off-peak hours thanks to specially adapted train control. Discover a job in which the future is thought out today.
How does it work?
On driverless lines, control of the trains is entirely managed by an Automatic Train Operation System. In other words, a computer system made up of high-technology equipment installed on the tracks, in the stations, on-board the trains... It is through processing the data coming from the interactions between all this different equipment that train movements on the line can be controlled simultaneously. And it is Alexandra who manages and coordinates the installation and operational trials of this system.
In a project that is a world first, line metro ligne1 has become completely driverless without major interruption to traffic. This technical and organisational challenge called on all RATP's know-how and its capacity for innovation.
Today, RATP continues to innovate and be at the cutting edge of these technologies, in particular with the extension of line metro ligne14 and the upgrade of line metro ligne4 .

The taste for a challenge, coordination and organisation are all essential qualities to exercise this project management work that calls on many different professionals within the RATP Group. “Today, lines 1 and 14 are completely driverless, while lines 13, 3, 5 and 9 benefit from the latest-generation automatic pilot with driver… and this is just the start! It is a field in which innovation needs to be implemented in a very concrete way and this is very stimulating.”
