An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. At RATP, this expression takes on its full meaning when you consider that we manage a major transport network. Those who take care of it provide “preventative maintenance”.
Their role? To repair, regulate, revise, control and verify equipment at predetermined intervals or according to prescribed criteria. Their actions reduce the probability of a breakdown or malfunction, or the deterioration of equipment, rolling stock and capital goods.

Preventative maintenance is ongoing, at all times: 24/7 and 365 days per year.
Altogether, 10,000 employees work daily to maintain the rolling stock and equipment on all our networks, to ensure they function properly, day in and day out.
Maintenance operations, including revisions, maintenance and replacement, are provided for all our transport vehicles (buses, metro and RER trains, and trams); our mechanical equipment, such as escalators, elevators and catenary lines; and of course our infrastructure, including the stations, tunnels, bridges and tracks.
Maintenance work can only be carried out when the network is not in service, so at night, between 1:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.
If our job is well done, no one realises it. Our greatest pride is when no one talks about us, and when we are congratulated once a year with the following words: “Well done! We have met our targets in terms of quality service.
