Modernization work is currently underway on line 6

This century-old building, a testament to the metal architecture of the Paris metro dating back to the early 20th century, required renovation for several reasons: corrosion, damage caused by water infiltration, and aging materials.

The aim of this project was to replace the stairs and ensure passenger comfort in the face of inclement weather and wear and tear over time.

The intervention by RATP teams includes:

  • 4 custom-made cast iron columns.
  • 49 tons of steel, with an estimated lifespan of 100 years.

The modernization works on line 6 confirm the policy of preservation and commitment to the historical heritage of the Paris metro.

What's new on line 6

The deployment of the new generation MP89 trains, financed by Île-de-France Mobilités, is ongoing. The adaptation of infrastructure to this new rolling stock and the modernization of facilities will be completed by 2026. This includes the modification of railway signaling systems in the Nation and Charles de Gaulle - Étoile areas, as well as on-track testing of the new train control system. These efforts contribute to the improvement of passenger service.

The heritage of line 6

Lines 2, 5, and 6 are characterized by structures (viaducts, pillars, arches, glass roofs, stairs, mezzanines) that have remarkably withstood the test of time. To maintain their usability, aesthetics, and durability, they are undergoing a preservation campaign, with renovation projects for stations or sections planned each year.
